Traduk Temple is located on the way from Tsedang to Yumbulakang and is one of the first Buddhist temples in Tibet. It was build in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo around the same time as Ramoche and Jokhang. Traduk means “Hawk and Dragon”.
According to legend, there was a lake at this temple’s location and lived a Naga Dragon with five heads. As the Demonic Naga was harming the lame and life of people around it. King Songtsen Gampo manifested himself into a hawk and Subdued it. Later, the temple was built as one of the twelve temples built on the important points of a She-Demon body, which embodies Tibet’s land.
In terms of relics, there is a unique pearl Thangka of Avalokitesvara and a small statue of Padmasambhava, made in the 8th century by his disciple. There is also a Tara Statue that is said to have spoken in the past.
Besides these, there are many other statues of buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Dharma protectors and scripture, just like in the other Buddhist temples.
Travellers Guide to Traduk Temple
Traduk Temple is located very conveniently in Tsedang. You can visit the temple in a short time. Usually, we take travellers to Yumbulakang first and to the temple after visiting the Yumbulakang.
You will need to remember, as you arrive at the Tsedang, your tour guide has to go to the tourism office of the prefecture to get the additional travel document calls Aliens to permit. It will only take a few minutes.
