The restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of Lhasa near the Jokhang temple. It is easily accessible from all the major hotels popular for International travellers.
You can easily find the Tibetan family kitchen as you go around Barkhor street. It is located right behind the Namse Super Market on the south-west side of Barkhor, before reaching the Jokhang temple as you circumambulate.

The family behind the restaurant
A Tibetan couple starts the Tibetan family restaurant. Both husband and wife are the former tour guide.
After the birth of their first daughter, this young family start this restaurant with the help of sister Dechen, (The owner of Tibet highland tours and Travel), Namdol and Lubhum start this a restaurant in a residential apartment of the old city of Lhasa.
Initially, this restaurant was started as a part of Social initiative project of Tibet highland tours, and it later became an independent entity as the business grew.
Now the Tibet Family Kitchen is run entirely by this family.
The Menu of Tibetan Family Kitchen
Despite the Authentic Tibetan cuisine, the Tibet Family Kitchen also serve continental, Indian and Chinese cuisine.
But, I would recommend all to ask them for the recommendation. Most of the time, the restaurant will also have their daily special.
Cooking Class
In addition to the mouth-watering Tibetan food to eat, The restaurant also offers a cooking class where you can learn how to make Tibetan food.
Momo is the most popular food. Many travellers would like to learn how to make it to try it back home.
Lady Namdol will take you from shop to making of actual momos in the Kitchen.
Communication and Experiences at the Tibet family kitchen
All the staff members of the restaurant can speak a perfect and fluent Mandarin, English and Tibetan Language. Everyone is amiable and welcoming with a big smile on their face.
It is centrally located and very close to all the hotel where international traveller stays in Lhasa.
It is in a unique and authentic Tibetan style cottage in the heart of Lhasa. It was build in the early 20th century, and its use to be a resident of very influence noble family of Lhasa.
There is a rooftop terrace with a view of both the Potala Palace and the Jokhang. You can dine on the terrace if weather permits.
