Covid-19 Travel information for Tibet, Update May 2021: Recently, we are receiving an increasing number of emails asking if Tibet would be open in the year 2021. So I decided to write what I have been hearing in Lhasa.
TIBET IS OPEN FOR EXPATS LIVING IN CHINA
Good news for Expats living in China. Tibet is open for Expats living in China. You can now apply for Tibet travel permit via your local travel agency in Tibet.
You will have to send us following document to apply for your Tibet travel permit.
- Your Valid Chinese Visa
- Passport
- Residential permit
- letter from your employer or school acknowledging your enrollment and your stay in China for more than 28 days prior to your arrival in Lhasa.
- Covid 19 Test Result within 7 days prior to the beginning of your Tibet Tour.

Closure of Tibet to help battle the novel coronavirus epidemic
In February 2020, the Tibet Tourism Bureau had the cancel all the organize tours in Tibet. The direction was given to all the local Travel agency to Cancel all the tours and refund the full amount to the travellers for preventing travellers from getting into Tibet.
Since all international travellers cant visit Tibet without an organized tour, No International travellers can enter Tibet until future notice.
Domestic Tourism in Tibet is slowly resuming back to normal
In mid-2020, We saw an increasing number of domestic tourist visiting Tibet. All the travel agency made all the preparation as per the government policies
All the international travellers can visit Tibetan area in other provinces of China.
At the same time, all the international travellers can visit other Tibetan inhabitant region in other provinces. We have helped organise the tour for many travellers.
Tibet is likely to open up for Foreigner with China’s residential permit
There is an increasing number of websites announcing the likelihood of Tibet opening up of ex-pat living in other provinces of China.
Yet, so far there has been no update from the Tibet tourism bureau.
